Nursing Home Obesity Toolkit
In nursing homes across the country, about one in three residents is obese. Delivering care for residents with obesity is different than for people with normal weight. Quality outcomes for residents with obesity are lower, and care for residents with obesity is more expensive. The has been developed to help improve resident satisfaction, staff satisfaction, and resident safety related to nursing home residents with obesity. The target audience is nursing home administrators. The toolkit includes resources such as brief, research-informed tips for admissions, equipment, and funding for residents with obesity, an admissions decision tree to guide admission planning, an obesity risk assessment form, a draft nursing home policy for obesity care, and a safe patient handling and mobility equipment checklist.
